CHALLENGE ALERT TO ALL SUBSCRIBERS BRASS NOTES ON BEALE STREET
The Jazz of Note concert at the Memphis Drum Shop was an outstanding event with of videos of the Jimmie Lunceford Big Band and the Fred Ford/Honeymoon Garner Trio with Bill Tyus. Johnny Yancy and the Sanctuary Jazz Orchestra played original Lunceford charts and many of the memorable songs performed by the trio.
We have almost reached our goal of raising enough money to create and install the two brass notes on the Beale Street Walk of Fame this July and September. There will be public ceremonies on Beale Street honoring these musicians at a date to be announced.
We still need your help in honoring these outstanding jazz musicians who have had an impact on jazz music, not only in our city but throughout the US and abroad.
